  • Superon FERROGOLD 301 Electrode is for joining hard to weld steels and joining steel to stainless steel, manganese steel.

    A low heat input electrode designed to produce high tensile welds. It can be used in all positions except vertical down to produce smooth, porosity free welds without undercut or spatter.

    Applications:
    Wherever maximum ductility is required when joining dissimilar steels to themselves or to stainless steels, manganese steels also excellent as a cushion layer in tools steel hardfacing applications where high hardness pick up is not desired in the final overlays.

    Microstructure:
    Austenite with a ferrite of approx 15%

    Procedure:
    Prepare joint area by removing foreign material. Bevel heavy sections to form a 60/90 degrees vee. Material to be welded should be clean of all contaminants. . Preheat high carbon steels to 204C. Use jigs, fixtures and tack welds to maintain alignment. Maintain a short arc and use stringer beads rather than a weave technique, beads are preferred to prevent overheating. Allow to cool slowly before removing slag. Always use eye protection when material is cooling. Deposits will take a high polish when subjected to wear.
